What is TradeFlow EU

TradeFlow EU is an independent hobby project: a dashboard for European Union trade-in-goods statistics, built to make official monthly trade data easy to explore, compare, and interpret. It is operated in a personal capacity and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the European Commission or Eurostat.

Data source & licence

All figures originate from Eurostat’s Comext database, dataset DS-059341 (international trade of EU and non-EU countries by HS classification), reused under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. Source: Eurostat.

Update cadence

Eurostat publishes these statistics monthly, roughly six to eight weeks after the end of the reference month. TradeFlow EU refreshes its database on a monthly schedule; the most recent data month is always shown in the dashboard header.

Methodology & caveats

The dashboard covers extra-EU trade (EU27 with non-member countries); values are in euros as reported. By statistical regulation, import values include cost, insurance and freight (CIF) while export values are free on board (FOB) — import and export unit values are therefore not directly comparable. Unit values (€/kg) are indicative: trade value divided by reported kilograms. The chart hides isolated extreme unit values caused by very small shipments by default (a “Show outliers” option reveals them); downloads always contain the unmodified figures.

TradeFlow EU is built to be privacy-friendly. It sets only the strictly-necessary cookies needed to sign in (provided by Clerk), which require no consent. Where analytics are enabled they use Plausible, which is cookieless and collects no personal data or cross-site identifiers. Any advertising shown is contextual and cookieless — matched to the page, not to you — with no behavioural tracking or profiling. We do not sell personal data.
